Damilola S. Olawuyi

Professor Damilola S. Olawuyi, SAN, FCIArb is a consultant lawyer at OSUYA & OSUYA, specializing in international law, natural resources, energy, and environmental law. He is an accomplished law professor, arbitrator, author, and policy consultant with extensive experience in petroleum law, climate change law, business and human rights, project finance, entrepreneurship law, and international commercial arbitration.

At 32, Professor Olawuyi became a Full Professor of Law at Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, one of the youngest to achieve this distinction in Nigeria. He currently serves as Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Chancellor’s Fellow, and Director of the OGEES Institute at the university. He also teaches energy and environmental law at HBKU Law School in Qatar as the UNESCO Chair on Environmental Law and Sustainable Development and provides legal services as a Senior Counsel and Arbitrator at McNair International Law Firm.

Professor Olawuyi has practised and taught law across Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and the Middle East. He was formerly an international energy lawyer at Norton Rose Fulbright Canada LLP and deputy director of international environmental law at the Centre for International Governance Innovation, Canada. His scholarly contributions include numerous publications, such as Environmental Law in Arab States (Oxford University Press, 2022) and Local Content and Sustainable Development in Global Energy Markets (Cambridge University Press, 2021).

He holds leadership and advisory roles in several legal organizations, including Vice Chair of the International Law Association, co-chair of the Africa Interest Group of the American Society of International Law, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Sustainable Development Law and Policy, and Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators. He has also served on the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights and the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative.

Professor Olawuyi was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor in Alberta, Canada; Ontario, Canada; and Nigeria. He was awarded the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 2020, becoming the youngest academic and first private university graduate to attain this honor. His extensive experience in energy, environmental, and sustainable development law, combined with his global academic and professional exposure, makes him a leading authority in his fields.
