Henry Chibor

Henry Chibor is a Partner and co‑head of the Litigation/Arbitration Practice Group. He has vast experience spanning decades as a litigator, arbitration counsel, and arbitrator, with particular expertise in disputes arising from commercial transactions, securities, labour and industrial relations, oil spill and maritime claims. In the last decade, he has successfully represented clients in disputes with a total value exceeding US$1 billion.

He has represented indigenous and multinational clients at trial and appellate courts in Nigeria and has sat as lead Arbitrator in several arbitral proceedings involving claims running into millions of dollars. He has successfully defended an indigenous oil exploration company against a multi‑billion naira oil spill claim, defended a multinational oil company and indigenous oil and gas companies against a multi‑trillion naira oil spill claim before the National Human Rights Commission and the Court of Appeal, and acted as Lead Counsel in a multi‑billion naira arbitration involving multinational engineering and construction companies. He is currently defending an indigenous oil and gas company in disputes arising from bidding and acquisition of an oil prospecting licence, and representing a maritime company in a multi‑million naira suit.

Henry holds an LL.B and LL.M from Rivers State University and a B.L. from the Nigerian Law School. He is a Notary Public for the Federal Republic of Nigeria and a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, the International Bar Association, the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators UK (Nigeria Branch), the Professional Negotiators and Mediators, and the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Administrators.
