Theophilus Ochonogor

Theophilus Ochonogor is a Partner in the Dispute Resolution Practice Group. He obtained his LL.B (Hons.) degree from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1995. Before joining the firm as a Partner in 2016, he gained extensive litigation experience with several law firms and served as Head of Chambers at Clarke, Paiko & Co. for over twelve years.

He leads a team of lawyers handling complex dispute resolution matters and regularly advises clients on litigation strategy, legal opinions, pleadings, written addresses, and appellate advocacy. His courtroom experience spans appearances before the Federal and State High Courts, the National Industrial Court, the Investments and Securities Tribunal, the Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

Over the course of his career, Theophilus has represented clients in a broad range of disputes involving employment and labour law, family and matrimonial matters, banking and commercial transactions, constitutional law, oil and gas, land and property disputes, contract law, tort claims, and general civil litigation. He has also developed substantial expertise in legal research, drafting, advocacy, cross-examination, and appellate brief writing.

His professional experience includes involvement in numerous reported decisions before Nigerian courts as well as participation in international arbitration proceedings before the Netherlands Arbitration Institute in Rotterdam. He has represented clients in significant commercial, regulatory, public sector, banking, and energy-related disputes, further strengthening his reputation as an experienced litigation practitioner.

Beyond legal practice, Theophilus is an ordained Minister of the Redeemed Christian Church of God and holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Theology from the Redeemed Christian Bible College. He is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), International Bar Association (IBA), Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators (NICArb), and the Business Recovery & Insolvency Practitioners Association of Nigeria (BRIPAN).
