Anita Ekwebelem

Anita Ekwebelem is an Associate in the Commercial Intellectual Property and Data Protection Practice at Jackson, Etti & Edu in Victoria Island, Lagos. She advises local and international clients on the protection, management, and commercialization of intellectual property assets, as well as compliance with data protection and privacy laws. Her practice encompasses intellectual property protection, portfolio management, and data governance, enabling clients to navigate complex legal and regulatory issues while safeguarding valuable business assets.

She has experience advising on trademark and copyright protection, including conducting registrability searches, managing prosecution processes, and developing effective intellectual property portfolio strategies. She also supports clients in negotiating and drafting a broad range of intellectual property agreements, including licensing, assignment, coexistence, confidentiality, and other commercial arrangements relating to intellectual property.

In the area of data protection, she advises organizations across diverse sectors on compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023 and other applicable data protection laws. She has experience supporting organizations with data protection compliance audits, Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), regulatory registrations, privacy governance programmes, and the preparation and review of data protection policies, agreements, and other compliance documentation. She also delivers data protection advisory services and privacy awareness training.

She holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from Nnamdi Azikiwe University and a Barrister at Law (B.L) from the Nigerian Law School, and has completed the General Course on Intellectual Property (WIPO). She is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association and the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators.
