Deborah Mayowa Kalu

Deborah Mayowa Kalu is a Senior Counsel at Dentons ACAS‑Law in Lagos, practicing in the Energy and Project Finance group, specializing in Energy Law. She advises local and foreign clients on project finance, capital market transactions, fintech, intellectual property, and general corporate practice, with a focus on energy sector transactions.

Deborah has been involved in advising investors on the divestment of interest in a major power distribution company in Nigeria, including drafting and negotiating share sale and purchase agreements; advising sellers in a gas sale and purchase transaction with a focus on regulatory approvals; advising a natural gas distribution company on the establishment of a multi‑instrument programme and Series 1 bond issuance; and advising a leading investment bank on a multi‑billion naira note issuance programme. She also advised a leading commercial bank on structuring capital raising to meet regulatory requirements and advised an international payment processor on launching a platform for payment of international school fees. Her experience spans transaction structuring, drafting transaction documents, and conducting due diligence exercises.

Deborah holds an LL.B (Hons) from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (2021), where she was Best Graduating Student of the Faculty of Law, and a B.L. from the Nigerian Law School (2022). She was called to the Nigerian Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 2022. She is a recipient of the Reginald Aziza Leadership in Law Scholarship (2021) and the Bankole Olumide Aluko Scholar award (2022). She is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association.
