Gbenga Oyebode

Gbenga Oyebode is the Co-Founder of Aluko & Oyebode, with over 45 years of experience in corporate and commercial practice. He is described by Chambers Global as a “consummate dealmaker” with deep expertise in energy law, project and infrastructure finance, privatisation, telecommunications, and corporate commercial law. He has been involved in the negotiation of complex commercial agreements for a wide variety of transactions across multiple sectors.

He has advised on major energy and infrastructure transactions, including the US$3.5 billion Brass LNG project (a joint venture between NNPC, Total, ConocoPhillips and Agip), the US$1.275 billion financing of the ExxonMobil Natural Gas Liquid II project, the US$1.06 billion financing of the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas Plant Expansion, and the US$3.5 billion financing of the NNPC and Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited Satellite Oil Field project. He has also advised on the implementation of the first private Independent Power Production (IPP) project in Nigeria by a major international electricity corporation.

Gbenga holds an advanced law degree from the University of Pennsylvania, gained legal experience at White & Case LLP in New York City, and served in-house at Gulf Oil Company (later merged with Chevron). He has been recognised by IFLR1000 as one of Nigeria’s most prominent lawyers and by Chambers Global as a leading practitioner. He has served as a guest lecturer at the ALU School of Business in Kigali, Rwanda, and the Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology in Accra, Ghana.
