Muyiwa Balogun

Muyiwa Balogun is a Partner and leads the firm’s Dispute Resolution and Government Business practices. He is widely recognized for representing clients in complex, high-value disputes and routinely appears before international arbitral tribunals, appellate courts, and superior courts in Nigeria. His practice focuses on resolving sophisticated commercial, regulatory, financial, and public sector disputes.

Muyiwa has represented clients in several high-profile matters, including enforcement proceedings relating to a facility of approximately NGN10 billion, parallel LCIA arbitrations involving a foreign investment of approximately US$25 million in Nigeria’s agricultural sector, and precedent-setting litigation before the Supreme Court of Nigeria arising from a derivative action involving minority shareholders of a Nigerian bank.

In addition to his dispute resolution practice, Muyiwa advises government agencies, financial institutions, and international organizations on regulatory compliance, public expenditure management, privatization, corporate governance, and tax-related matters. His clients have included the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and USAID.

Muyiwa is also actively involved in legislative and policy reform initiatives. He played a significant role in the drafting and development of key Nigerian financial sector legislation, including the Fiscal Responsibility Act 2007, the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria Act 2010 and subsequent amendments, and the Banks and Other Financial Institutions Act 2020.

He holds an LL.M (Distinction) from the University of Liverpool, a B.L from the Nigerian Law School, and an LL.B (Hons) from Ogun State University. He is also the author of publications on taxation and fiscal policy, including “Presumptive Taxation as a Panacea for the Taxation of the Informal Sector in Nigeria”.
