Dr. Virtus Igbokwe

Dr. Virtus Igbokwe is a Partner and Head of the Firm’s International Arbitration Practice Group. He advises foreign investors, sovereign states, and international financial institutions on complex cross-border disputes, foreign investment matters, and international commercial transactions.

His practice focuses on international arbitration, foreign direct investment, mergers and acquisitions, international trade, corporate transactions, corporate governance, securities, and oil and gas matters. He has extensive experience representing clients in investment treaty disputes and international arbitration proceedings involving multinational corporations and government entities.

Virtus holds a Ph.D. in International Arbitration of Investment Disputes from Osgoode Hall Law School, an LL.M. from the University of British Columbia, a B.L. from the Nigerian Law School, and an LL.B. from the University of Benin. He graduated as a gold medalist in both his LL.B and B.L classes.

Before joining the Firm in 2004, he worked with leading organizations including Shell Petroleum Development Company and international law firms. He has authored several publications on international arbitration, foreign investment disputes, and international law, and is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association and the Canadian Tax Foundation.
