Charles Mafua

Charles Mafua is a Senior Associate at Dentons ACAS‑Law in Lagos, practicing in the Energy and Project Finance group, specializing in Oil and Gas Law. He provides legal advisory services to local and international businesses on a broad range of energy‑related matters, including oil and gas, power, mining, and renewables, with particular expertise in the upstream sector.

Charles has significant experience in compliance advisory, mergers and acquisitions, project development, and regulatory matters. He advised Zigma Limited on its participation in the 2020 Marginal Field Bid Round, culminating in the successful award of participation interest in Omofejo Field (OML 49), including bid presentation, regulatory interface, and negotiation of formation, shareholders', operating, and concession agreements. He has advised on a US$2.8 million funding arrangement in exchange for economic interest in an oil field in OML 96; negotiated a Logistics Supply deal for territorial LPG supply in Nigeria; advised on a contract for Marine Petroleum Haulage services for an indigenous oil company; and advised on the divestment of participatory interest in an oil field in OML 29, including regulatory approvals and ministerial consent. His experience also includes a US$7 million contract for Electric Submersible Pump services, corporate due diligence, and shares sale and purchase agreements.

Charles holds an LL.M from the University of Hertfordshire (2017) and an LL.B (Hons) from Igbinedion University, Okada (2013). He was called to the Nigerian Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 2014. He is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association and the Lawyers in Energy Network.
