Sola Adepetun

Sola Adepetun is a Partner Emeritus and co‑founder of Dentons ACAS‑Law, specializing in Oil and Gas Law. With a career spanning over 43 years, he is renowned for his expertise in oil and gas law, with considerable experience across a wide range of energy‑focused matters, including deal structuring, project finance, acquisitions and disposals of oil and gas interests, corporate structuring, and regulatory compliance.

Sola has been involved in numerous significant transactions, including advising on the acquisition of all 45% undivided participating interests held by Shell, Total, and Eni in OML 42; advising a Nigerian company on its proposed acquisition of Chevron's 40% undivided participating interest in OMLs 52, 53 and 55; advising in relation to the bid for the acquisition of participating interests in OML 18 and 29; acting for Moni Pulo Limited in securing a landmark judgment on the requirement for ministerial consent for share transfers; and advising on a proposed N60 billion initial public offering—the first proposed public offering by an indigenous oil and gas company in Nigeria. He also served as a key member of the Oil and Gas Sector Reform Implementation Committee (OGIC) of the National Council of Privatisation, whose recommendations formed founding principles of the Petroleum Industry Bill.

Sola holds an LL.B from the University of Lagos (1981), a B.L. (Honours) from the Nigerian Law School (1982), and an LL.M from the London School of Economics (1984). He was called to the Nigerian Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 1982.

Sola has been consistently recognised as a leading practitioner: ranked as a Senior Statesperson in the Chambers Global Guide (2025), inducted into The Legal 500 Hall of Fame (2020) for Energy and Natural Resources, listed as a Thought Leader in Who's Who Legal: Global Elite (2019), and named a Highly Regarded lawyer by IFLR1000 (2020, 2024).
