Doherty Taiwo

Doherty Taiwo is a Senior Associate with expertise in dispute resolution and mining. He advises clients in the oil and gas industry on local content obligations, represents clients in local and international arbitrations and Nigerian courts, and handles complex commercial disputes, debt recovery, and insolvency matters.

He has advised the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board on the conceptualisation, design, and implementation of the Nigerian Content Fund, and was part of the team that advised the National Assembly on the legal framework of an earlier version of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA). He has acted for host communities in multi‑billion naira claims against international oil companies, and for various banks in debt recovery and insolvency matters.

Doherty holds an LL.B (Hons) from the University of Ibadan and was called to the Bar at the Nigerian Law School, Victoria Island, Lagos. He is an Arbitrator and member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, United Kingdom. He is also a member of the Nigerian Bar Association and the International Bar Association Section Centre for Human Rights.
