Kubi Udofia

Kubi Udofia is a Partner with expertise in corporate insolvency and restructuring, litigation and arbitration, corporate and commercial, and investments and asset management. He is a leading practitioner in insolvency and restructuring, advising on cross-border debt restructurings, liquidation proceedings, and complex commercial arbitrations across the energy, finance, and infrastructure sectors.

He advised US‑based Avanti Communications Group on security provided by its Nigerian affiliate in support of a multi‑million USD debt restructuring, represented Intrepid Offshore Construction in insolvency proceedings against a Nigerian oil and gas company involving a multi‑million USD debt, and represented Suntrust Oil Limited in debt recovery and winding‑up proceedings against an Irish‑based oil company. He has represented Providus Bank in debt recovery and winding‑up proceedings valued at billions of naira, and was a key member of teams that successfully defended Neconde Energy and the largest gas producer in West Africa against multi‑million and multi‑billion USD claims at the London Court of International Arbitration. He also advised on hotel management agreements with Hilton Worldwide worth hundreds of millions of dollars, acted as transaction counsel on a major airport infrastructure project, and advised LADOL on leases and agreements facilitating the integration of the Egina FPSO vessel.

Udofia holds a PhD (focusing on corporate restructuring and insolvency law) from the University of Nottingham, an LL.M (corporate law) from University College London, an LL.B from the University of Uyo, and an IRM Cert. (with Distinction) from the Institute of Risk Management, London. He is a Fellow of the Business Recovery and Insolvency Practitioners Association of Nigeria, a member of INSOL International, and a member of the Institute of Risk Management. He received a National Award for contributions to ease of doing business in Nigeria through insolvency reforms, served as an adjunct lecturer at the University of Nottingham and Lagos Business School, and was appointed to draft the Insolvency Regulations 2022 and Practice Directions for Nigerian courts.
