Muhammad Sani Umar

Muhammad Sani Umar is a Partner who has been in active litigation practice since 2009, with particular expertise in insolvency, debt recovery, banking and finance, employment and labour relations, medical law and ethics, real estate, start‑up law and finance, and intellectual property. He is especially skilled in insolvency and debt recovery, including realisation of assets in receivership, mortgages, out‑of‑court exercise of power of sale, summary proceedings for realisation of mortgaged properties, perfection of mortgages, registration of charges, winding‑up proceedings, settlement and workouts, documentary credit transactions, asset tracing, and court orders for possession or foreclosure.

Sani has assisted clients in obtaining Moneylender's Licences and establishing Microfinance Banks, while managing risk and digitisation within legal frameworks. In 2017, he was engaged by the International Committee of the Red Cross, Geneva as Legal Consultant. He advises foreign multinationals on foreign direct and portfolio investments in Nigeria, and regularly advises start‑ups from registration to project financing, IP protection, corporate governance, and restructuring.

Sani is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, American Bar Association, International Bar Association, and Business Recovery and Insolvency Practitioners Association of Nigeria.
