Ben Unaegbunam

Ben Unaegbunam is a Partner in the Corporate and Commercial Practice Group at Dentons ACAS‑Law in Lagos, specialising in mergers and acquisitions, infrastructure and project finance, tax, and corporate restructuring. He has extensive experience advising on infrastructure transactions, M&A, restructuring, property law, due diligence, taxation, employment, fintech, and security issues arising from project and infrastructure finance transactions.

Ben has advised on numerous landmark transactions, including Interswitch Nigeria on VISA's US$200 million acquisition of a 20% stake; IHS Nigeria on a series of transactions totaling US$485 million for the acquisition of over 11,000 communication sites; Bharti Airtel on its US$10.7 billion acquisition of Zain Africa's assets; Hygeia Nigeria on the sale of 83.4% equity to a consortium comprising IFC, IFHA, Swiss Re and CIEL Healthcare Africa for US$66.8 million; and Opera A/S on the acquisition of 85% of Paycom Nigeria. He has also advised the Lagos State Government on the Redline Metro Rail Project, AP Moller-Maersk on the US$2 billion concessioning of the container terminal at Apapa Port, and DEG on numerous financing and equity investment transactions across Nigeria.

Ben holds an LL.B from the University of Benin (1996), a BL from the Nigerian Law School (1998), and an LL.M from the University of Lagos (2001). He is a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria and has been listed as "Highly Regarded" by IFLR 1000 for Project Development, Capital Markets: Structured Finance and Securitisation, and M&A (2019–2022).
