Dr. John Onyido

John Onyido is a Partner in charge of the Firm’s Intellectual Property and Technology Department, also overseeing the Energy, Infrastructure and Natural Resources sector. He has considerable expertise in intellectual property law, including the maintenance of IP rights, related litigation, and enforcement actions such as Anton Piller orders and injunctions against counterfeiters. He represents multinational companies including Guinness, Nestlé, Danone, Coca‑Cola, MTN, and Facebook.

He has extensive civil and commercial litigation experience in labour, banking, insurance, breach of contract, and international trade. He has also handled matters involving recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments, sovereign debt disputes, international investment, and telecommunications. He has appeared before US courts (admitted pro hac vice) and collaborated on appellate briefs before the Second Circuit. He is on the editorial board of the Copyright Lawyer Magazine (UK).

John holds an LL.B. with Honors from the University of Benin, a B.L. from the Nigerian Law School, Lagos, an LL.M. in International Law and Diplomacy and an LL.M. from the University of Lagos, and an LL.M. in Intellectual Property Law from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. He is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, International Bar Association, American Bar Association, American Society of International Law, International Trademark Association (INTA), and IIPLA.
