Emmanuel Ikwuakolam

Emmanuel Ikwuakolam is an Associate Counsel at Dentons ACAS‑Law in Lagos, practicing in the International Trade & Shipping and Dispute Resolution groups, specializing in Maritime Law. His expertise spans shipping litigation, charterparties, marine insurance, cargo claims, and enforcement of international maritime agreements, with a robust track record in maritime, shipping, and international carriage of goods by sea.

Emmanuel represents both multinational and domestic clients, including shipowners, terminal operators, oil and gas companies, and governmental institutions in landmark disputes before the High Courts and appellate courts. Notable matters include representing a terminal operator in a claim for damages arising from alleged damage to consignments; acting for a shipping company in recovery of accrued demurrages; acting for a shipowner to compel a party and a leading bank to honour a mortgage agreement; and acting for a leading shipping line in a multi‑billion‑naira suit for damages arising from failure to issue vessel pre‑arrival notice.

He holds an LL.B from the University of Nigeria (2019) and a B.L. from the Nigerian Law School (2021). He was called to the Nigerian Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 2021. He is a member of the Nigerian Maritime Law Association and the Nigerian Bar Association.

Emmanuel was recognised as a 40 Under 40 Rising Star by the ESQ Nigerian Legal Awards in shipping and transportation (2025) and won the NBA‑SBL Young Lawyers National Debate in 2024. He is a regular contributor to legal publications on maritime and shipping law.
