Joel Nyot

Joel Nyot is a Senior Associate in the firm’s Oil and Gas Business Unit. He advises domestic and multinational clients on oil and gas transactions, project development, project financing, mergers and acquisitions, and regulatory compliance, providing strategic legal support across the energy value chain.

Joel has extensive experience advising on complex upstream and midstream transactions. He was involved in advising on Seplat Energy’s acquisition of Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited and regularly supports indigenous petroleum companies in acquiring upstream assets divested by international oil companies. His practice also includes advising on drilling services agreements, well intervention projects, and natural gas sale and offtake arrangements for both greenfield and brownfield developments.

In the financing space, Joel has advised on refinery project financings, negotiated financing and security documentation, and supported the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) in connection with a US$3 billion pre-export financing transaction. He also participates in regulatory engagements with the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), assisting clients in developing effective regulatory compliance strategies.

Joel holds a B.L from the Nigerian Law School and an LL.B from the University of Uyo. He has been recognized by Legal 500 EMEA as a Notable Construction Law Practitioner and is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
