Prof. Bayo Adaralegbe

Prof. Bayo Adaralegbe is a Partner with expertise in energy and extractive industries and dispute resolution. He advises on oil and gas legislation, regulatory compliance, project financing, and international arbitration, and has played a key role in shaping Nigeria’s energy legal framework.

He has advised the National Assembly on the Petroleum Industry Act and amendments to the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act, drafted regulations for the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, and advised the Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority on transactions and investments. He regularly advises international oil companies, independents, and foreign investors on upstream and downstream operations, divestments, fiscal regimes, governance, and financing, and also advises electricity companies on operational matters. He serves as party‑appointed co‑arbitrator and sole arbitrator in domestic and international disputes, particularly in energy, IT, telecommunications, construction, and real estate, and acts as lead counsel in complex arbitral and court disputes with large claims.

Prof. Adaralegbe holds an LL.B (Hons) from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), an LL.M (with Distinction) in Petroleum Law and Policy and a Ph.D (focusing on Investor‑State Treaty Arbitration) from the University of Dundee, United Kingdom. He is a Chartered Arbitrator and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a Chartered Secretary and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries and Administrators, and a Fellow of the Energy Institute, United Kingdom. He has been appointed Notary Public of Nigeria, Adjunct Professor at the University of Ibadan, Federal Government Representative on the University of Lagos Governing Council, and editor of the Lagos Court of Arbitration Journal. He is recognised consistently in Who’s Who Legal for Energy & Natural Resources and maintains a popular column, “Oily Briefs”, in Thisday Newspaper.
