Lawyer Profile

Tunji Adeyemi is a Partner and a pioneer member of the Shipping, Aviation and International Trade Practice Team, focusing on Maritime Law. He has advised on a broad spectrum of shipping and aviation transactions in Nigeria.

His career includes several firsts, including being the first and only lawyer from Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa selected as a Dabelstein & Passehl Shipping Insurance Scholar in Hamburg, Germany. He led the team that advised a Canadian aircraft company on its first offshore finance lease transaction for a DHC-6 Series 400 Aircraft to a leading Nigerian operator, and the team that advised a leading Dutch P&I Insurance Company on Nigerian legal and regulatory requirements, resulting in the pioneer official approval by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency for the issuance of Blue Cards under the International Convention on Civil Liability for Oil Pollution Damage and the Athens Convention — the first ever for a non-member of the International Group of P&I Clubs.

He advises leading local and international shipping companies, shipping lines, offshore service operators, P&I Clubs, insurance companies, commodity traders, airlines, financial institutions, and government agencies in the transport sector. He has received recognition from the World Bank for his contributions to the Doing Business Report.

Tunji holds an LL.B from the University of Lagos and a B.L from the Nigerian Law School. He is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, the Chartered Institute of Taxation, and the Nigerian Maritime Law Association.
