Umar Faruq Hussain, MCIArb is a Senior Associate with expertise in dispute resolution. He represents clients in complex commercial litigation, international arbitration, and regulatory disputes across the energy, financial services, manufacturing, and insurance sectors.

He has successfully represented an international production company in breach of contract claims resulting in judgment credits of hundreds of thousands of dollars, and the largest global workspace provider in a breach of contract claim before a Nigerian court. He obtained a restraining order against a Federal Government agency to prevent recovery of assets from a failed insured bank, enforcing a client’s possessory lien despite restrictive legislation, and also secured a restraining order preventing auction of over 50 haulage trucks belonging to a multinational manufacturing company. He successfully secured government approval for re‑exportation of restricted industrial machinery worth billions of naira and negotiated settlements for release of seized trucks. He has been a key member of teams advising on multi‑million‑dollar insurance claims, representing a Dubai‑based energy company in litigation and Paris‑seated arbitration over an oil field worth hundreds of millions of dollars, representing a leading global energy company in London‑seated arbitral proceedings involving billions of dollars in potential damages and post‑arbitration enforcement, and representing a leading construction company in arbitral proceedings involving millions of dollars.

Umar holds an LL.B. (Hons) from Osun State University and a B.L. from the Nigerian Law School. He is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, the International Bar Association, the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, UK (MCIArb), and the Business Recovery and Insolvency Practitioners of Nigeria.
